Become a Lucky Lifer

The Artists

Ben Fairhurst aka DJ FHURST: UK Resident

DJ Fhurst, was born in the UK yet brought up deep down under in Perth, Western Australia. DJ Fhurst and the Lucky Life Crew first connected at a random gig they were both involved in through a mutual contact on a Sunday in Putney, London. After hearing Ben’s set and getting on with him like a house on fire, we soon began inviting Ben to play at more of our events, and it wasn’t long before DJ Fhurst became a resident and household name with the Lucky Life Parties.

As well as spinning his tunes at Lucky Life Events in London, Ibiza and Madrid over the past few years, DJ Fhurst has also held himself a fantastic weekly Radio Show on World Dance Radio every Saturday night from 18:00 – 20:00. Ben’s relationship with World Dance Radio also resulted in a number of collaborations with Lucky Life and World Dance Radio where we have hosted live shows from many of our events, including our Day Pool Parties in Ibiza, Halloween at Babalou in London, and our private Secret Location NYE House Party.

Musically, DJ Fhurst’s style moves around a bit, depending on whether he’s rocking an Ibizan Boat Party, a roof top party in Madrid or his weekly Saturday Night Radio Show, but generally you can catch him playing dirty, grinding house/ techno. DJ Fhurst’s music and mixing is much like his outlook and approach to life; “It’s about being in the moment and reacting to the situation with a tune or a mix to suit that moment.”

In the words of DJ Fhurst; "If its Phat, its Fhurst!"

Grant Sivell aka DJ OPTI: UK Resident

Born in Durban, SA, Grant Sivell, aka DJ Opti broke into the DJ scene in 1997 when a DJ booked to play the VIP room of a Durban nightclub couldn’t make his set. Grant raced home, grabbed his records and, quite nervously, arrived to play his first ever live set. DJ Opti pulled off a brilliant first set, and from there, has moved from strength to strength.

For the next 8 years, DJ Opti worked his way around the SA DJ scene and got all the experience he needed to make his move to the UK in 2005. After a 10 month break from the scene, his love of music and the nightlife came calling to he could no longer turn down the desire to do what he loved most. After playing around the London scene for a short while, DJ Opti met the Mike Parry and the Lucky Life Crew on one of our Thames Boat Parties. After helping out with the sound and lighting for many of the Lucky Life Parties and filling in a few sets, DJ Opti was officially made a resident with Lucky Life and the relationship was equally beneficial for both parties involved.

As a resident, DJ Opti has now toured with Lucky Life in SA and Ibiza and played at every one of our events over the last 2 years, playing in the most amazing clubs to the worlds best crowds, always living the Lucky Life. Some of his highlight gigs since joining Lucky Life have been The Terrace at Amnesia for Cream Opening Party 2009, Space Red Room, Ibiza closing parties 2009, Ministry of Sound in London, Roof top Party in Madrid, Traxx in Durban, SA and Lightbox in London.

As well as being a versatile, dedicated and talented DJ, Grant has been a great asset to the Lucky Life Crew with his top class knowledge of sound and lighting and his awesome dedication and support of the brand!

Bruce Gainsford aka GAINSFORD: UK Resident

Music is in Bruce Gainsford’s blood. Born in New Zealand he was learning to play the piano and guitar as he was learning to talk. Bruce bought his first electric guitar on Sunset Boulevard at age 12. The acquisition of a 4 track followed closely after and his fate was sealed: A Life of Music.

Sam Ravenhall of Lucky Life met Bruce at a houseparty one weekend in London, loved his music and couldn’t stop talking about him to Mike, so we arranged to meet up and not only did the trio get on like a house on fire, but the music was a perfect match for the brand, and so the journey began.

Gainsford has since played for Lucky Life as a resident DJ at Ministry of Sound, Pacha, The Artesian Well, many Boat Parties, Babalou, Dex Club for South City, Kanya Beach Bar, Ibiza and even gained a residency at Bar Sia

As well as adding to the parties with his DJ, guitar and production skills, Bruce’s music has over the last year had a massive role to play in Lucky Life, as he provides loads of his own new productions as the soundtrack to Lucky Life TV. “It’s a very exciting moment when we take a track that I’ve watched Bruce raise a dancefloor with, and then use it in a promo video or a special scene in one of our episodes. We have been very lucky to have such a talented musician as a part of our team, even more so now with the start of Lucky Life TV,” Mike Parry, Lucky Life Entertainment Director.

Bruce is currently busy working on exciting collaborations with some very talented vocalists and producers. Watch this space for some storming new releases.

Julian Lacey: Australia Resident

Julian 'Lacey' started Djing at University in 1993 while studying computers and quite quickly realized he enjoyed it a great deal more than his pursuit for an IT career. In 1995 he moved to Sydney and quickly found work on Oxford St which at the time was at its peak of popularity. During the nineties Julian had a number of long term residencies playing house and  HiNRG at such clubs as the Temple, DCM, NV and the hard house day club at Kings Cross hotel as well as many guest spots at most of the inner city clubs. At this time Julian also started promoting regular events, the most successful being the long running ‘About Face’ Sunday recovery.

In 2000 Julian moved away from playing HiNRG and was more focused on house music which he had previously been playing only in early night sets. The two weeks of the Olympic Games in this year will be the most memorable of his life as he had residencies in three clubs at the time and DJed almost every night, the crowds in the city went truly mad for his sets.
This new focus on house music led him onto the world famous QBar on Oxford St which he was both a manager and head DJ of for almost 8 years. To this day Julian still says “I am yet to meet someone that was over 18 at the time that hasn’t been there at least once.”

Over this time Julian also had the opportunity to play in clubs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide as well as international invitations to play in various clubs in New Zealand, Bali and Fiji.
Julian now enjoys a more relaxed approach running the DJ’s at ‘name this bar’ in Sydney, Australia, playing to a crowd "that simply enjoys good music.” Julian has recently become a Lucky Life resident in Australia, also looking after DJ management and sound and lighting for the Sydeny events, and in June this year, hit the White iSle of Ibiza for the first time, on tour with Lucky Life and playing sets at Kanya, Shardana and Es Vive's 'Experience Bar.'
